Chapter 6: Plumbing Elements and Facilities Bathing Rooms
Alternate Roll-In Shower Compartment with Folding Seat
If provided, a folding seat must be mounted on the front wall and extend to within 3” from the
compartment entry. The width of the front wall is not specified, but where a seat is provided it
should be wide enough to accommodate a folding seat of sufficient size.
Note: Side wall not shown for clarity
A benefit of the alternate compartment is that it provides a grab bar within reach from the seat
on the opposite wall. The grab bar on the side wall is dimensioned so that it does not overlap
the seat when down. With a folding seat, the controls, faucet, and shower spray unit can be
located on the back wall opposite the seat instead of the side wall.
